Ecclefechan Butter Tart Recipe from


2 Beaten eggs

6oz / 200g soft brown sugar

1 tbsp vinegar

8oz / 250g mixed dried fruit

2oz / 50g chopped walnuts

Prepared short crust pastry

4oz / 125g melted butter


1. Mix the sugar, butter and beaten eggs together 

2. Stir in the vinegar, then add mixed fruit and nuts

3. Line patty tins with pastry and put a spoonful of the mixture into each 

4. Bake in a fairly hot oven (190C/375F/Gas Mark 5) for 20-25 minutes
